Quality Control Feedback
You can report quality control issues and generic abuse reports with no mention of specific URLs, editors or categories here.
Issues with links can be reported directly in the directory (flag icon to the right of each listing) or in the forum thread below. Thanks :-)

As a member of the Curlie (Open Directory Project / DMOZ) Meta Community, I am pleased to announce the release of a new feature : the Public Abuse Report System. Curlie is committed to providing the best quality directory possible. Unfortunately, a small number of editors/webmasters are more committed to their self-interest than the directory. The actions of the few threaten the directory's quality and integrity, adversely affecting the user experience. This system will therefore enable users of Curlie to report suspicions of abusive editors/conduct to Curlie Meta Editors and Admins. All reports will be investigated expeditiously and in complete confidence. …

Sites which Bait and Switch Content

I have seen numerous times this scenario?? So that is why I say this flaw must be fixed: <br>A webmaster submits a site, filled with pop ups, spam and only affiliate links.. The site gets reviewed by an editor and deleted as per guidelines. The offending webmaster complains but before doing so CHANGES their SPAM site. They take away the pop ups, add content pages that were not there and so on.... There are many variations of this scenario but you should get the idea from it. I personally now believe that it is why there is such a backlog of sites. Granted there are valid complaints about subjective things.. but the truth is not somewhere in the middle. Sites that a…

Site removed to take personal "revenge"
by Guest megacool- 7 replies

My site has been in the ODP since the past 6 months or so. The editor of the category visited the forum on my site and started spamming against the clear written forum charter and guidelines. I asked him very nicely, to please stop spamming and deleted the specific post in question. But he continued spamming each section of my forum. Ultimately, left with no choice I had to ban him from my forum. Now as a revenge towards me, he removed my site from the category. My site is one of the best sites on the subject, if not the only best one. In addition to this unethical move by the editor there is something else I would like to bring to ODP's attention. The editor has l…

Hi, About two weeks ago I’ve sent an abuse report to kctipton with cc to staff@dmoz.org Since then some of the reported sites have been removed, some of them where reported by mistake (my), regarding one I’ve discussed in other thread with one of the editors (remained unanswered) but the most important sites that are abusing the category remained untouched. The sites I’m referring are all licensees of the same manufacture: And I’ve provided link to prove it. Half a year ago, one of my customers tried to submit his site. The site was rejected, and when my customer tried to find out on this forum why, he was answered that deferent licensees are same as affiliates “a…

Are duplicate URLs in a topic abuse?
by Guest hughprior- 3 replies

Are duplicate URLs in a topic abuse? If so DMOZ is absolutely littered with them. Why can't the database and/or program include this as a basic check? I could give hundreds of examples (these were found examining the first 5000 categories out of 350000), but here, for those who don't believe me, I give half-a-dozen. Sometimes I am sure it is an attempt at spamming (succesful it seems). Sometimes it may just be over-busy editors, with over-large categories, probably bambouzled by spam attempts (succesful it seems). I leave it as an exercise for the reader to try and guess why each of these instances happened. Before you all rush to fix these half a dozen, I woul…

I'm not sure if I should list URLs here, so I'll speak generically. A company copied nearly our entire website; their listing was removed from ODP by a meta some years ago, but it appears it's been listed again in Regional. I have ample proof. Could someone point me in the right direction?

ODP's procedure when investigating abuse?
by Guest msaw- 4 replies

I have found a blatant case of abuse, and will be emailing the details to one of the metas. Meanwhile, I was wondering: 1) Once you find a site and its duplicates, cloaked replicas, etc., which are all listed multiple times in DMOZ, how easy is it for you to find out which editor(s) listed all of these? 2) If most of these sites were listed by someone who is still an editor, do you ban the person immediately? (I hope so!) 3) How far do you look into other things that this same editor may have done (e.g., deleting competitors' listings, etc.)? Do you have access to complete records of everything that each editor has done? 4) After that, does someone go back and …
