editor application

Hello, Last week I submitted an application to be an editor of a small category that stated it needed an editor. It happens to be in a field that I am quite passionate about (as it had a dramatic impact on my life). In any event, I received the initial confirmation email which I replied to and then the second email stating that the application had been received. Since then I have received nothing back. I was hoping someone here might be able to help me by either looking into it for me, or let me know how long I should expect to wait for an answer. The category I applied to was: Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Kitchen_and_Dining/Water_Treatment/Filtration and I app…

Arrrgghhh! After Hildea replied to my post I have decided to apply to become an editor. My chosen category is Regional: Europe: France: Society and Culture: Expatriate Life... BUT, I have tried five times to send my application and I can't get it to go! Each time I try to send it, it tells me that I have to fill out the form correctly, ie. filling in all the fields. I have checked, double checked, triple checked (shall I continue? /images/icons/frown.gif ) and every field is filled out as far as I can see. I really would like to apply, and I wondered if anyone could help me. Perhaps there is an e-mail address where I could send my application to? Thanks, Shar…

how do I know if I've been rejected?

I applied to be an editor (my 3rd time trying) on February 21. I received the confirmation email that said I was in the queue and have not heard any word since. The first two times I was rejected I received the form letter "you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor" within a few weeks. I took that feedback literally and chose a new category that is as far down the line as possible and says that it needs an editor. Since it has been more than 6 weeks since I sent my latest application, I thought maybe I had been rejected without notice so I tried to reapply this morning. My application was not a…

How long to get automatic response?
by Guest -- 3 replies

Hello again! After all the problems yesterday, I'm pleased to say that I have finally been able to send my application to become an editor! I have looked at some of the other messages related to becoming an editor and have noticed that I should recieve an automatic response to which I should reply. However, as of yet, I haven't recieved this, and wondered if anyone could tell me how long it should take to come? I made my application about 30 minutes ago (ok, so I'm a little impatient, but after yesterday, I don't want to mess around anymore! /images/icons/smile.gif ). Regards, Sharon

How does one check the status of one's application?

I must admit to making a huge, embarrasing booboo! As a new editor to the Regional: Africa: South Africa: Business and Economy: Internet: Web Design and Development category last year, I was unable (for personal reasons) to perform my duties as an editor for a (rather long) period of time. My status as Editor was obviously de-activated because of the extended period of inactivity on my account. This is an answer that I have, shamefully, only now discovered. What happened was that I tried to login after the initial inactivity - with no success. And let me be honest here, I really panicked! I thought I'd done something hugely wrong and was too enbarrased to look into …

Lag Time follow-up for applications

Hello, I recently applied to become an editor for dmoz.org. I used an alternate email (one I check about once a week). After a couple of weeks, I noticed that I received an email with the following information: INSTRUCTIONS - please read and follow carefully. To complete your application process, please reply to this message. This will confirm that we have your correct email address. Do not change the Subject: line -- it contains your registration key. So I replied, as per the email, and I received another email message that said: Your Open Directory editor application could not be confirmed. The error received was: Can't find your authenticatio…

I was just wondering what is involved in being an editor? Also, what is the normal amnt of time it consumes to be an editor? I'm sure it varies but what would be an average amnt of time each week that you might be looking for?

Hi: This forum is a great idea given all the bad press that DMOZ gets in various forums. I have applied several times to be an editor, and being reasonably fluent in the English language, with an understanding of directories, thier requirements, and how to write titles and descriptions for them thought I stood a chance, especially since I alway chose a small category that said it needed an editor, but have been rejected each time. From discussions in SEO forums I see a general perception that if you identify yourself as being involved in SEO you will not be accepted. Can someone please set the record straight on this matter?

Hello. I am currently the editor of Arts: Music: Bands and Artists: C: Collins, Phil I had recently applied to edit other categories related to my interests, however, when I applied, I was told that I didn't have enough edits so I was rejected. In the category I am in, there aren't many submissions to ODP, so I really can't gain any more experience in editing. So should I resign completely from that category (even though is a huge interest) and apply for another category, or should I go out on the net and find related sites and submit them so I can get more experience? I have many interests and would like to help out in as many categories as I can. Any information anyo…

Rejected as editor

I applied to be an editor, and was rejected. 2 of the sites I used in my application were from companies I declared an affiliation to. That was mainly because I had trouble finding sites that belonged in that category (a regional one) that were not already listed either there or somewhere appropriate. Would that be likely to be the reason for my rejection. I suspect I was also too wordy in what I said (and I can't say I had no typos either). I applied because I was worried about the apparent lack of editors for the country as a whole, and I thought that startin in my own region was a good idea.

Hi, first of all, I think having this forum is a great idea /images/icons/laugh.gif To what's important... I found several categories I would like to become an editor of, all of which does not currently have an editor. There aren't many sites in it as well - probably around 10. I'm wondering what the standards are to become editors. I don't have a website at the moment but I spend a considerable amount of time at forums learning stuff - all of which are related to those categories. I started out a few months ago, each day spending anywhere between 3 hours to 10 hours - yes... I'm an addict /images/icons/smile.gif Is that sufficient enough? Or is Dmoz looking at o…
