Lock Out

Hello, I was thrilled to get accepted as an editor yesterday and went about reading some of the reams of material that was sent to me about how to edit listings and add new ones. Then I logged in and tried to do a little work. This afternoon I was planning on asking the new member forum about the listings I worked on and could not get back in. My password does not work any more and I was wondering if I am being locked out on purpose or if it is a glitch of some kind. Please help! Mark markr37

My Application

I had applied to the http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Colorado/Localities/B/Boulder/Business_and_Economy/Services/ category about three weeks ago and I was rejected because some of the sites I suggested had an overlap and probably should have gone into another category. I resubmitted with better fitting sites about a week later and I haven't heard back yet. I got the confirmation emails and everything so I was just wondering if someone could look to see if my application is still in the cue or if it was rejected. Thanks for your time! Luke

I was an editor quite some time ago for a small cat in Adult. Circumstances (me moving around for a few months) led to my prolonged inactivity, and my account was cancelled for that reason. A few months ago I applied to be reinstated--responded to the automated message--and never heard back. A month after, I tried again. Still no reply. Now if there's some reason it was denied, I suppose that's simply the way of it, but it would be nice to hear about it. I think maybe the problem would be that the email on record for my original editor acct is no longer active? Would they be trying to send a message to that email on file? Anyway, editor name was kalisti. …

Could someone please check my Application to become editor of: "Games: Video Games: Simulation: Flight: Multiplayer Combat: IL-2 Sturmovik" I'm sure I received an email that i replied to to confirm this, but it has disappeared into the depths of Outlook since then. Seems like ages ago I applied. Thanks in advance Quick Edit as I just read tips thread for chasing applications! Here's a clickable link to the section: Top/Games/Video Games/Simulation/Flight/Multiplayer Combat/IL-2 Sturmovik and I *believe* my editor name was the same as my board nam…

Over a year ago I applied to be the editor of Recreation: Drugs: Dissociatives: DXM, and was totally ignored. Not as in rejected, but they never responded. I applied again about a month ago. Again, totally ignored. This is all of 10 site category, and at this point my main interest was cleaning out 3 long dead sites that don't belong there, but remain. I could accept being rejected; although I can't imagine why in this case. However, by being totally ignored the DMOZ this just sending the message to outsiders "go away, we don't want you". I guess I'll have to stick with Zeal, but I was hoping more from the DMOZ than this. Sigh. <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt=""…

FAQ and General Advice About Becoming an Editor Recommended reading It's a very good idea to read carefully the information provided when you push that "become an editor"-link - both the initial screen and the form itself. This may seem obvious, but a lot of the applications we receive indicate that the applicant hasn't done this. There is also useful information in the Curlie help section. Choosing your first category - size and complexity As the application information states, "Your chances of becoming an editor are greater if you apply for a small, underdeveloped category to start (generally categories with less than 100 sites)." This also includes sites i…

I submitted to be the Editor of the band "The Calling" twice...once around 1:00 PM or so from work, and around 8:00 PM at home...both times, after I hit the submit button I got a "page not found" error. I would like to know if there is any way I can find out if my submissions went through or if there is another way that I can submit to be the editor of this section! It takes a long time to complete the application and I'd rather not have the "page not found" error again. Your assistance is really appreciated!!

Need an editor or not? I'm confused.

Was not sure if I should pose this question here or in technical problems. What does it mean when several categories say "This category needs an editor" and when you apply you get a denial letter within hours saying this category is already well represented by knowledgable editors? If it is a technical problem shouldn't they see about removing the "need an editor" because this is confusing. It is also a big waste of time after filling out the application so carefully. Thank you

If you want to ask for a progress report of your application to become an editor, then please post the following things: 1. The editor handle you used, such as 'totalxsive' 2. The category you applied for, such as Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Devon/Woolacombe/ (having a clickable link helps greatly) The ID given on the 'please reply' email is simply there to confirm that it is really you that is replying - it doesn't play any other part in the application process. Some applications take longer than others to review, but typically it should take no longer than 3 weeks. You will always recieve an email if you are accepted, but emails are not always sent …

Complaints about lack of communication

I just signed up for the board because I had a specific question, and now that I have read several of the other posts, I have to say I am a bit disturbed at the expressed dissatisfaction with ODP lack of communication. Initially I would have to say I was taken back at this seemingly lack of respect on DMOZ's part, but as I continued to read, I noticed how consistent this is a complaint. Judging by that I feel compelled to say, "Stop your whining." Any one who has spent any time here can already know one thing, that explanations for submission refusals are not to be expected. You are beating a dead horse by saying the same thing as the other guy over and over again. Y…

Applying more than once.

Hello, I would like to know if applying as an editor more than once is frowned upon? I submitted an application to edit a category and was rejected. I submitted again and was rejected again. Should I just go away and leave you folks alone? Should I keep trying? There are other categories I would be happy to edit. I'm just wondering if subsequent applications would be considered spam. I applied with a handle of MarkR37. Thanks, Mark.

Hi There, Love it, I simply love what you are doing, and I would love to be an editor! When I submitted my application I got a response that an editor was not needed for Female Sexuality, but a the message at the bottom of this category says there is an editor needed. Do you need an editor at this time or not? I would love to know! Thank you, Teresa

Reinstatement as an editor
by Guest -- 4 replies

I was an editor about 2 or 3 years ago. Because of an affiliation with a SEO company I was kicked out. Since I am no longer affiliated with that company what would be the best way to go about getting reinstated as an editor? I have tried the "Request an Reinstatement as an Editor" form a couple times and have never heard anything back on it. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I'm having trouble submitting my editor application. I didn't have any problems submitting my site, but I did recently upgrade my IE. Here is what the error message says: "Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed. If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0." My IE has 128-bit, so th…
