Good people of the ODP forums, I was an editor for two cats for several months. Thought I was doing a good job. In early March 2002, I requested an additional cat to edit (no editor listed for that particular cat), and was removed as an editor all together. I have written to DMOZ staff several times requesting an explanation for removing me. I still have not heard from anyone. If a meta reads this and is willing to look into this, please reply and I will provide my editor name and password. All I am looking for is an explanation. Sorry to ask this, as I'm sure it gets very old for you guys to have to check constantly, but can I get the status of my application to be an editor? I signed up about 2 weeks ago, and my email server went down for 2 days after i signed up, so I'm afraid I missed the email. I signed up using the name Delvair, for This Category (I think... can't remember exactly). Thanks Delvair == Edited to remove link to Adult content per guidelines.

Category change after the editor application

I applied today to become an editor in the category http://dmoz.org/Home/Homemaking/Frugality/Refunding/. This is a small subcategory which has an editor, but was not updated since June 2. I just realized that the category one level up http://dmoz.org/Home/Homemaking/Frugality/ does not have an editor. This one has 180 listings. I guess this one might be more appropriate to apply. Now I have 2 questions: a) Is it possible to change the category after the application? b) Is a category with 180 listings too large for someone to start with? BTW, I used the name "kcsurf" to apply. I filled out the application form again, because my application for reinstatement never got a reply at all. Once I had filled it out, and clicked next, I got the reinstatement form again (since I had answered that yes, I had previously been an editor). My question is: was there any point to me applying to be an editor anew, or does only the reinstatement form get submitted? Thanks. (login was kalisti23)

Hi, I have applied to help with the editing of: Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Business and Economy: Shopping: Clothing I am concerned on two points. 1, The category might be deemed two large for me to become an editor initially. 2, I have just read in another forum that on registration if you only review two instead of the three sites some reviewers generally reject your application. Is this true? If i had known this then i would of reviewed another site. Thanks in advance for all who reply!

I applied for editor position of the following catagory last month: health,medicine,surgery,cosmetic and plastic,surgeons and clinics,united states,oklahoma. I am a registered nurse in oklahoma and thought it would be fun to do this section. I also thought I would be good at it since I understand the differences in physician specialties and services. I haven't heard anything one way or the other. Should I start wondering if I actually hit the submit button or something?

My suggestion is that Dmoz accept more editors by making it easier to be an editor, that way there are more "volunteers" with more "volunteer" hours to review sites and there can be no excuse that editors are 'just' volunteers.

Yesterday, I filled the 'become an editor' form for the following category, which hasn't been updated for ages: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Yugoslavia/Travel_and_Tourism/ I did everything that was required, and yet I received an email saying that my application had been denied, without any additional comment. Any thoughts?

I know that it is WAY too soon to inquire about the status of an application. With that being said, I'll go forward with my reason for posting. Yesterday, after submitting my application for the category Home/Family/Babies/Photo_Contests, I realized that I may have just made myself look like a total fool. I simply cannot shake the need to justify myself. In a previous post on this forum, I stated that I would be kidding myself to think that I would have the time to become an editor. Hello all! I recently took the plunge and applied to be an editor of the category which (I think) most closely represents my area of expertise. I spent a considerable amount of time (as recommended) crafting what I thought was a well thought out, insightful application, answering each section in turn, and fully disclosing my one (and only) affiliation as an article editor of a site which is in a similar genre, but not listed in that category. A couple of months ago, I applied to become editor of shopping:sports:racquetball. They rejected me and said to become editor of the regular racquetball category first. I hvae been told last 2 times that my application wasn't in the que (ofcourse both the times I got the mail and I replied to it). I submitted again for the same category I hope some one will look into my application before I change my opinion on DMOZ. I started with Zeal after I tried to be an editor at DMOZ and became an editor in just a week. This is really becoming a bad experience to me at DMOZ that no one is looking at my application. I realise that the subject is becoming somewhat tedious to all of you metas out there, but those of us who really want to become editors are chomping at the bit to know what our status is. I also realise that the workload for those who are reviewing our applications is really quite formidable, but is there any way of finding out whether we are in the queue, whether we have been rejected or whether we have just been lost in the internet abyss?
