Hello, We have a business http://rockbrothers.com which offers multi media audio/visual production services including web design, graphic design & web hosting; video production services including pre and post for both broadcast and non-broadcast productions, crew and talent coordination, photography and other related services. We would like to get listed in multiple categories and understand from reading other posts that this means we may submit once to "Topical" (Arts, Business, Computers, etc.) and once to "Regional". We found many categories for which we provide services and was wondering if it is possible to get listed in more than one "Topical" secti…

Hi, Ive recently made a new site at www.trancesystem.com and im really unsure where to submit the site to. Its a resource/community/interview/tutorial site for trance dj's and producers. Ive looked at the music composition section, but it really seems only for classical composers and not dance music. Any advice would help loads, cos ive drawn a blank at the moment. Thanks

Hello there, Tried submitting http://www.aardvarktravel.net to http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Travel/Guides_and_Directories/ a long time back but never had any success. In desparation, I started trying to submit various pages such as http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Poland/Travel_and_Tourism/ and others. In hindsight, I now realise this was rather fool-hardy and seems to have earned me a reputation as a spammer (which I assure you I'm not!). Can someone advise how I can wipe the slate clean and start afresh? Many thanks, Paul

Since all of the editors have been such a help in the past I thought I would ask one more question (for now) /images/icons/wink.gif I have a site that I have been working on that is a home improvement directory. I am hoping (and working on) that it will contain quite a bit of informational topics along with the directories of professional services. I am sure it will take some time to grow and become popular but I need your opinions since I will be finalizing the main pages content this weekend and hopefully be submitting to ODP. What category(s) do you feel are the most appropriate for this site. I know you have a lot to do but I would appreciate any feedback on …

This seems like the appropiate forum to ask this. I run a Yahoo Store and am having a hard time getting listed in the directory. I have tried a few categories with no luck. There is no general merchandise category that I can find a posting link in. What would be an acceptable category to list in? Thank you for your time. Paul Minichillo

Modification of Site after Listing

What is the ODP policy on site changes or updates after it has been accepted in the directory. Are sites re-indexed periodically? I can see quite a potential for abuse if listed sites are being changed afterwards.

Hi One of my sites ( http://www.sethlovis.co.uk/ ) just got a listing after approx. 2 months wait. Another site ( http://www.innocentinjured.co.uk/ ) has been waiting for 6+ months now. They're both under: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Legal_Services/ With the first being listed in 'Lawyers and Law Firms' and the second waiting to be listed in 'Claims Services'. Neither category has an editor and therefore relies on editors further up the directory. I'm puzzled why one has been waiting for 6 months without review and yet another that I submitted 4 months later is already listed. Have I done something wrong? Is t…

"Unique Content" - clarification, please

Hello editors, I'd like to hear your opinion on what is considered a "unique content". For example, there are a lot of online artciles already written on the strategy of backgammon game. Does it mean that we should not publish our OWN content - articles written by our editors - on this topic? As I undestand DMOZ guidelines your main concern is that people should not copy and paste the material that is already found online (which is illegal anyway). Am I right on that? Please, clarify...

Ok, I have www.consultgroup.net.au to submit and because it covers so many types of consulting for so many different organisations I don't know where to put it. The appropriate category for it has not got an "add url" button and none of the sub categories are adequate as they might be suitable for small segments of the site only. Should I e-mail one of the 4 editors looking after the appropriate category? or what? http://dmoz.org/Business/Consulting Thanks

hello, I submitted our site about 10 minutes ago into a pretty specific category because I couldn’t find a more ‘general’ category to submit to. I did find other categories that were almost equally appropriate, but they were just as specific and/or limiting. As it stands, I think I will just wait and see if the site gets in, because the submission is in progress, but my friend pointed this forum out to me, so I thought I would ask your advice because I felt like maybe I did it wrong. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob ____________________________________ Title: Online Loan Calculator Description: offers mortgage, financial, and auto loan calcul…

Hello Editors, I've just spent a couple of hours going through all the threads in this much needed forum but couldn't find the answer to my question. First, a bit of background... We started as a private mailing list where the participants discussed various aspects of online gaming. Very soon we thought that 1) we need a web presence and 2) we need to separate our visitors according to their games' interests (The participants with interest in CHECKERS had nothing in common with BINGO fans, two different subjects) After a short survey we realized that we should build "niche" sites dedicated to the following topics. - solitaire portal - backgamm…

Chainsaw=1 (Confused on ODP Policy)

I'm confused on an issue. It seems to me that there's something very unfavorable going on in the ODP and maybe someone here can help me out. Before I start, please be aware that I have read the submission policy - especially pertaining to this: "Affiliate links are links to a commercial site that usually, but not always, include an affiliate or referral ID in the URL, such as AffiliateID=19555&ProductID=508. The person whose ID is in the link gets a commission from anyone who buys from the site after following that link. A site that lists affiliate links in addition to other content (such as a fan site for a singer that has interviews and photos and links to buy th…

I want to get my dad's Bible study site into the directory. Category: Top: Society: Religion and Spirituality: Christianity: Bible: Bible Study He has his site in his comcast web space. Since I didn't want to ever have to change the address I got him a domain as a permanent address: http://www.faithhopelove.net To keep from having to pay for a hosting account for him I have this domain forwarded to his web space at: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/fmperry We are not selling anything. It is totally content. Will this be rejected as a redirect? Thanks. Josephus P.S. My site (http://www.spiritofprayer.com) has been listed for about six months and it is great. It comes…

What can I do if there is no editor?

I've been trying to get Advanced Packaging Group, www.apgcases.com listed among our competitors in Top/Business/Industries/Manufacturing/Packaging/Containers/Carrying Cases & Shipping Containers. Recently resubmitted the site for review to Top/Business/Industries/Manufacturing/Packaging/Distributors/Containers also to no avail. Someone suggested I climb the heirarchy of the directory and find editors. One responded, was more interested in finding out about these threads. I guess the question becomes who can I contact to see about kicking in this site?

First off I just want to thank all the editors of ODP. You are a shining star in a pay for inclusion world. Your volunteer efforts are truly self sacrificing, and I just want to let you all know I appreciate all that you do! /images/icons/smile.gif I have a couple of questions about my submission to the ODP. I submitted my site to [Top: Shopping: Jewelry: Supplies: Beads: A] about six weeks ago; the category is without an editor. Has there been a backlog of submissions to categories without an editor? Should I submit again? My site is www.allseedbeads.com . Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you, Jennifer

Hi ODP Editors, I'm so happy to have found this resource and I hope it can help me out. I have been trying for over 6 months to get digital-cables.com submitted to ODP directory. I have done everything I can think of, read every help file, emailed editors applied to proper categories and nothing. No replies and no listing. My site is in yahoo, google, inktomi and all the rest. One thing I noticed for my top category choice is that there is not editor. So what I did was go up a few levels till I found a category with an editor and submitted to that one but still nothing. I'm hoping some kind editor would take some time to help me out. Here is my site again: www.digital…

Greetings, I am writing to bring to everyone’s attention my recent efforts to get listed in the Open Directory Project. I would be grateful for a few moments of your time to review my query and provide a response if possible - any assistance that you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated – thanks. Firstly, I had submitted my site on a few occasions and each time awaited patiently believing that the site was more than worthy of being indexed. After several months (3-4) had passed I began contacting editors to see if they could review my site for possible inclusion. Of the 4-5 editors I contacted I received only one response – and my site was subsequen…

I have submitted my website http://www.tbotech.com several times to http://dmoz.org/Business/Industries/Security/Products_and_Equipment/ I realize there isn't an editor there but I have tried to get this site in for a very long time. I've followed the rules/guidelines to the best of my knowledge but never get a response. Can someone tell me if there is anything else I can do or need to do? Thank you

To all forum members, Our Web site, www.mothergoose.com, has been posted continuously at the same ISP since 1995. Our original content was a few illustrated nursery rhymes, but we now offer a series of preschool lesson plans for daycare and kindergarten, kid's free activities, crafts, and stories plus a history and collection of nursery rhymes. The site's current listing is under the Open Directory Category of Society: Folklore: Literature: Rhymes: Nursery: Mother Goose. This category has no editor to contact, so I am posting here for guidance. I believe our site's new content--lesson plans for preschool and daycare centers plus many free children's activities--sho…
