I've seen a lot of categories ran by editors that haven't bothered updating in years. Yet, no other new editors are allowed to apply for these categories because that position is already filled? It seems like that's a big problem that can be fixed fairly easily to me.

Our website <url removed> has been listed in DMOZ directory under Business-> Investing-> Commodities and Futures-> Forex -> Research and Analysis for over one and a half years but till now if we search for it in the directory, it never shows as the search result. I had sent an email in late 2009 about this issue and had received the following reply on 11/11/2009: "Our search works from a database dump, not the live directory, and can be a week or so out of date. If you can see your site when you browse to the category page, it's listed. I do not have an ETA on when the next "dump" will occur." ... but till now nothing has change. Any suggest…

I submitted my site about 12 months ago to a section that doesn't appear to have an Editor, I've been waiting patiently for my submission to be approved, today I thought I'd take a look through some of the sites within that section and within sections that are similar, I was amazed at what I found. One site listed 4 times in two sections Some sites that are under construction Lots of poor quality sites that should be removed I appreciate that some of these sites may have been listed years ago. Some of these sites were in sections that do have an editor, why doesn't that Editor clean up and maintain so that the directory it useful to its users (wait for the For…

Ok heres what happened. My boss has just set me on the task of submitting directory listings for approval with our website, i wont mention the name. so the very first one I submit for approval is DMOZ, BUT my boss didnt tell me that he had submitted our site less than a month ago, so it didnt appear when I searched so I thought it wasnt submitted. I wasnt trying to get two links on there or anything I just made an honest mistake, and I cant find an email or anything to email DMOZ and ask for them to remove my submission. Is there anyway this can be done? I really dont want my mistaken submission to affect my Boss's. Please help! please please please! thanks in advance for…

My website was added nearly 10 years ago. It never got a fair description at that time and desperately needs to be updated. The problem is that the category that contains my link is missing the "suggest URL" and "update listing" links. If I go up a category, because my link is technically not in that category, it will not allow me to update the link. When I suggest my site, I get no results because I'm certain that the editor can see that I'm in a sub category or he’s dropped off the face of the earth. What, if anything, can I do? Dave

I have a listing that is out of date for one of my websites, but since then I have forwarded that url to a new site, which I also submitted to Dmoz without thinking of my previous listing. The new listing isn't listed yet, so I would like to take off my old url and put on the new one. Can I do that? I never submitted the original listing, someone else did that to be nice so I don't have any information other than the url. Thank you.

This is a follow up to this old thread: http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=47920 In summary, DMOZ relies on a tool from 1and1.com, a webhosting company that hosts many comment spammers, content scrapers, and hacking/vulnerability tools. For that reason, our website blocks requests from 1and1 servers, although we specifically left open a hole for pmoz.info bot that is supposed to "generally from IPs 74.208.25.165 or 216.15.74.85" according to http://pmoz.info/doc/botinfo.htm Last month, pmoz.info bot came from 74.208.180.106 which is not mentioned on pmoz.info's bot info page, and was blocked. There were NO attempted followup visits from the semi…

Hello I am fairly new to DMOZ and the web in general. I have owned a website for over a year, and It was suggested that I submit it to DMOZ. I did and the site was never listed. Because it is so important to be listed in DMOZ, my question is this. Is there any way that you can get to ask any questions about a particular submission? My site seemingly follows all the rules, and it would seem it has been rejected as it has been 13 months since now. A few of my competitors are listed and I chose the same category as them, so it can't be the wrong category.. I would love any positive advice about this thanks

Our site was removed for no apparent reason by the editor after being approved in 2010. He wrote in an email shortly after approval stating the following: "I listed your site based on its current merits of site content and for no other reason." Our site has not been changed in any way shape or form since this time. I have been warned about editors controlling categories related to their own niche and it looks like that's exactly what is happening here. Please re-list our website in the appropriate category. Thank you for your time.

So I submit a website some time ago, probably around 4-5 months. Waited the time period, resubmitted maybe 2 weeks ago? (Not exactly sure) Today while looking through google analytics I see a referral from this link: dmoz.org | /editors/editunrev/editurl I then did a quick search and saw that my website was not listed in dmoz, does this mean it was rejected? (If so I'd be very cury as to why)

I'm seriously considering resubmitting my website to the DMOZ because it is not listed yet. Its probably over 2 1/2 years now since I submitted to the DMOZ and after numerous searches in the DMOZ comes up negative. I know they get really twisted if you resubmit a website but what's a person to do if they refuse to notify you if you are listed or not. At this point I don't know if I'm in line for listing or if my site was rejected. My question to use guys which will push me over the fence. Should I resubmit my site based on the 2 1/2 years I've been waiting? Thank you

Is the ODP search updating its data ok? I've seen mention of the search refresh date appearing at the bottom of the page (which it no longer seems to be); also found a link to a FAQ about search in a forum post - but that seems to be broken (might be outdated link). Also I've seen mention it can take a couple weeks to refresh; but it seems not to pick up items in the directory that have been there far longer than that. Searching ODP with Google seems to pick everything ok; although obviously that's something else - but an indicator the directory itself is working ok. Just thought I'd ask...

Hi. I once had a site registered in the Open Directory Project. Since it's no longer online already for a long time, the site ain't listed in the ODP any more. But unfortunately it's listed on some of ODPs mirrors. Some of these sites are for example http://www. newsletter-library.com or http:// v.im-worldwideweb.de/. Is it possible to get it removed from these sites as well? Thank you. Stooccer

I was checking if my website is listed and it is. But there is a notice that the website stopped functioning in 2004. This is not true. The only reason I was checking the listing is that I wanted to submit the site because I have a new design and am updating the site. I tried several times to update but I always get an error message that the url cannot be found. But when I search on the Dmoz, I get the url and the description of my site and the link works. It gets you to the new design. I want to get rid of the message that the site is no longer active. How can I go about this?
