Hi Folks, Hope you're all good I was an editor on DMOZ and would love to contribute to Curlie, looks like it has a great future. Reference login, I can't recall the email address i used a few years ago, and i've tried the password reset function without joy. My user ID was mattbait - can anyone help to manually reset me, I'd like to use an up-to-date email address now too if possible? Cheers for any help in advance.

Back in 2002 I was working at the website of a spiritual organization that has a global operation. I spent time trying to keep the site optimized. At the time there was a website with the opposite view that showed up in position 2 . I researched why that was the case, even though it didn't seem that the site should show up so well. What I came up with was that DMOZ had a guideline that websites of this nature, expressing their views of religious and spiritual organizations deserved prominence in search categorization and placement so that their views would be seen. I was updating a wikipedia article that linked to the dmoztools.net for a listing of murder mystery games, under party games>Murder mystery games>Downloadable. The problem is that there are zero listings there and my site was listed here in dmoz.org for 15 years along with around 30 other sites. I tried many times over the years to get moved to the root of murder mystery games since we sold both box and download, but they never moved us. In a different thread I have suggested how to recover the DMOZ data. But does the world still need DMOZ? The internet grows by about 2 domain names per second. And the listed domains needed maintenance, even if only changes of description. Way back at the turn of the millennium editors were struggling to keep up with what then seemed to be a flood, but that now seems a mere trickle. Humans might do it better, but we did it too slowly. I dislike the loss of data in the end of DMOZ, but believe that the time for a human-edited directory is now in the past.

For a long time now the sailing Links under the Recreation/Boating/Sailing have remained static. Also for a long time I have been offering to help with the section! Sailing is afterall a sport I have been doing for 10 years, attending national champs, and crewing for a couple of world champ winners. However it will not let you apply to edit anything further down than Recreation/Boating ... Why is this? You can go as deep into it as you like, you still can not offer to manage it. Would it not be usful to have a Sailing Editor, a Powerboating Editor? These are very big sections to edit, and one editor has the whole job of the whole Recreation/Boating section. …
