No suitable category for our typing product

    Hi folks.

We've been trying to submit our site to the ODP for a quite some time now, but we appear to have been put into everyone's 'too hard' basket.

As you can see, both of the categories relating to typing in the ODP are sub-categories of software and distance learning:
    http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Educational/Typing/
    http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/...ourses/Typing/

Our product is neither; it uses lettered gloves and printed lessons:
    http://www.touchtypers.com/

So, it relates directly to neither category, nor can we go up to a wider category, because these have even less to do with us.

We finally got a listing in Yahoo the other day. They gave up and bundled us under software:
    http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Ec...sts_and_Games/

We're not necessarily expecting categories to be moved or created for us, but right now our only other option appears to be submitting to the following category under educational supplies (but, if memory serves, we've tried this too and failed to get a listing):
    http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/..._and_Supplies/

Ideally, we'd like to be in a home somewhere under 'typing' in the ODP.

We've already emailed the editors in or above the categories for software and distance learning, but to no avail.

Does anyone have any further suggestions?

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

Interesting product you have there, I think you definately qualify as "unique."

I'm not a shopping expert, but I would suggest Shopping/Children/Educational.

I understand you are not only for children, but it is a start and judging by some of your graphics it seems to be the primary focus.

You may also think about adding an "About Us" page if you have a bricks and mortar location. This would qualify you for a Regional listing.

    Good luck,
    Jeff

    >>we appear to have been put into everyone's 'too hard' basket<<

The only category where I could find a submission for this URL was http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/...ourses/Typing/ (submitted October 22nd). It is awaiting review there. It seems your submissions to the two other categories were never received, at least there are none waiting there, and none has been rejected or moved elsewhere by an editor.

As far as I understand your product, it's neither a software nor has it really something to do with Distant_Learning/Online-Courses. But you already said that.

At first sight http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/..._and_Supplies/ seems to be appropriate.

Unless an editor with more experience in the Education categories than I has a better idea, all we can do is to move the misplaced submission in Distant_Learning/Online-Courses to a more appropriate category like i.e. Products_and_Services/Equipment_and_Supplies/.

Dajeffster was faster. Shopping/Children/Educational might be OK too.
BTW, do your gloves come with a build-in multilingual spell checker? I could use something like that.

    Thanks, Jeff and senox.

Trust me, over a dozen submissions have been made over the last 8 months. I have no idea why they're not visible. There were days where submission pages failed to load properly, but plenty where they went through without a hitch.

Shopping/Children/Educational sounds OK. Do I understand you correctly - that the submission has been referred to this category already?

(Oh, the regional/postal info is 'hidden' on the Email page. Thanks again, Jeff. You sarky so-and-so.)

No, but I just moved it a minute ago. The submission is now awaiting review in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Children/Educational/ , along with about a dozen others.
