There's no sign of any recent applications with that user name or for that category and its near neighbours. I expect our servers didn't receive your reply to the email confirmation message they sent to you.

In any event, that category is too large for a beginner.

If you try again, I suggest that you first whitelist email from the dmoz.org domain in your spam filters.

I prefer to answer questions in the forum and ignore uninvited PMs from non-editors.

Thanks for the swift reply Jim.
That's really frustrating - I put in alot of time and effort on that application.

Could you elaborate on the size issue please? I was led to believe this cat was not only the most appropriate for my expertise but also a good size candidate for a new editor- what would you suggest is an accurate new editor size range?

thanks

Generally 15-100 listings is the norm. Larger cats can be granted to beginners but the application would have to be exceptionally good. The huge majority aren't.

Have you read the sticky FAQ and General Advice thread above?

Thanks Jim,

Yes, I read the sticky before posting.
I take your point re: size, however the cat was recommended as the appropriate category for my application by a current editor.Obviously,I think the quality was pretty darn good ;-)

Anyway, as you say, it seems for whatever reason my first application did not reach anyone for assessment. I've now submitted a new application for this smaller but still appropriate cat:

http://www.dmoz.org/...ed_Merchandise/

un: ironword88

I know there's no way you can comment on the actual application status, as I've only just submitted it, but is there any way you can confirm receipt to the system. Obviously I waited 16 days before finding out my first application hadn't even been received. I received the confirmation page immediately after reply but I've not received any email yet.

thanks,

Until our servers receive a response to their email confirmation message, an application is invisible to us mere humans.

Ah, I see.
I haven't received the confirmation email for this new application. There's no problem with email filters. Could you give me some idea how long after submission these emails are sent out. I know the email address is correct-is there anyway I can 'poke' it into action? ;-)

There should be no noticeable delay, since the email confirmation requests are sent automatically right after you applied. Those mails are known to be detected as spam by several different filters, due to their automatic nature (and a few people reporting them as spam for whatever reason)

Unfortunately, without the email confirmation being done by you, we have no access to the application. If you can't find the mail, I suggest you try to reapply, if possible with a different mail address.

Thanks,

Yep, still no sign of the email confirmation. I received the confirmation screen after submission but no email.
I can't see where the emails would end up as dmoz.org is set to 'accept' on my filters. I'll try another submission with a different address - 3rd time lucky?

At last! After 3 applications, a change in email address and 3 changes in selected un, I've finally received the confirmation email.

There was no sign of the confirmation email from either of the 2 previous submissions, despite checking every filter/folder and client - for some reason it simply did not like my email address and no confirmation email was sent.

So now it just remains for me to wait to receive a response. (Bet my previous submissions where better)

thanks for your help.

I think we've had problems in the past with ISPs and hosts blocking dmoz.org emails as spam at the server level, so they wouldn't even make it to your email account.
