Title: Cape Town Accommodation Cape Town South Africa CapeTown Rentals Cape Town
Desc: Cape Town Accommodation: CapeTown hotels, Cape Town Luxury self catering vacation accomodation, holiday rentals, CapeTown Guest Houses, B&B in South Africa
Being polite about it, we don't think that they come anywhere close to meeting our editor guidelines whereas the existing entry does. It's thus hardly surprising that the change wasn't accepted.

We're a directory trying to tell surfers what they'll find on the website.

We're not an organisation that takes kindly to multiple keyword stuffed change requests - particularly when accompanied by what could be interpreted as threats.

Hmm, just ONCE was enough. Much more is harrassment.

The figure quoted is less than accurate - well, more actually. I'm pretty sure the actual figure won't be increasing though :D .

I have been waiting for over 2 years to get listed. My question is, since I don't know, or am unable to find out the status of my submission, is it a good idea to request submission every few months?

I don't want to overload the editors since they are understandably overwhelmed the way it is.

My site is, repsforrent.com and I think it is appropriate for the category: /Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Telemarketing/

Thanks for your help.

Don

I have been trying to update my existing listing for 3 months (everyday). I then tried to become an edditor for this category in order to update my listing myself. DMOZ response was that the category is already well represented? If so, why can't they update my lisiting? It is not even a big category. I am sure I would be a better edditor. People should not volenteer to become editors if they don't have the time. Try to sumbit to a similar (other) category......

I would love to know how an edditor can be too busy to update a listing. I don't see any changes in this category. Have a look at my site. I don't spam. I am located in my area and is no "flybynight". I would like to know who the edditor for my category is. Travel>regional>Africa>south africa>cape town>accommodation?

I have been requesting my listing to be updated for months now. The edditors are too busy? No.... There are no changes on the site for weeks.

Who is the edditor for Cape Town Accommodation? Please update my listing - I tried to resubmit everyday (as you can see) I am tired of this now. Title and description can be populated from index page: www.capetownaccommodation.org

I am going to request a update again today. Please respond.

Petra

I had no idea this was seen as stuffing. I am using a program that suggested I use the keyword three times in the title. Should I change the title to:
Cape Town Accommodation
The description to:
vacation rental properties in Cape Town South Africa.

You must please understand that I am working very hard on my site and I am obviously very frustrated. My current title is CapeTownAccommodation.Org - Who in their right mind will type this word when they are looking for "cape town accommodation" ? My business is called Cape Town Accommodation and this should be my title. Could the editor not just let me know why my submission was not accepted? I am going to have to close my business if I don't improve my ranking. This is very sad - I don't know anybody that works as hard as I do.

I did not try to be mean at all - I resorted to this because nobody responded or gave me any answers.

Kind regards

Petra

We list websites, if at all, according to out editor guidelines. Our Update Listing form includes extensive advice on our requirements but you seem not to have noticed it.

Far more serious are the apparent threats that you've issued and the harrassment by repetitive spurious update requests of several volunteer editors who are merely operating to standard procedure.

You are presumably in control of your website and the title we've used is the one at the top of the page. If you don't like the title you've given it, change it.

There's no evident address on the website.
Neither could I find a company name.

My land line number +27 (0) 21 438 8227 is South African. My addess is located on my listing page http://www.capetowna...on.org/add.html. The logo on my company car and everything else is "Cape Town Accommodation"

Thank you for your advise. I requested an update with the shorter version of titile and description. I am willing to bet anything that once my title is changed to my latest reequest my ranking on google will improve 100%. I feel very relieved that I found the answers I was looking for.

Kind regards

Petra

Seems like you didn't notice what I wrote in post #11.

In other words, you need to change it on your website.

I'm afraid I can't see the logo on your company car from here.

You should not be. You should be reading the ODP rules for Titles and Descriptions and not relying on some automated program. Before you do anything else - read all of the following in detail:

http://www.dmoz.org/add.html
Auto-submission software is (and always has been) a violation of this procedure. Sites submitted automatically are flagged and deleted after the submission is accepted, without notification to you.

http://www.dmoz.org/...ing.html#titles

Do give the official name of the site as the title. Generally, the title will be obvious and prominently displayed on the site.

http://www.dmoz.org/...describing.html

Continued spamming can lead to out and out removal of your site and a permanent ban

The edditors are too busy?
Yes they are - rejecting all the spammy updates you are sending. But, for the record, most updates by anyone are rejected, since they do not comply to the listing rules.

Not that I can see. I would not use that as the title for your site.

The title should be CapeTownAccommodation.Org - stretching it, then possibly The Cape Town Accommodation Team

Could you please explain why the body text of http://www.capetowna...stern-cape.html is word for word indentical with that of http://www.accommodationrsa.co.za/ , and followed by a link to it?

Actually, both texts seem to come from the official tourism site for the area.

Actually it seems as if quite a number of other sites have content from the 'About Cape Town' page (or, heaven forbid, that page is made up of content from a number of other sites).

The same applies to the attraction and tours pages which repeat the same content on both pages several times.
:) Though I am a volunteer editor, my opinions do not constitute an official ODP statement. :)

The lack of unique content and the threats to our volunteer editors have had the inevitable consequence. The site's been removed from our directory and will not be relisted.

(Yes motsa, I realise that was a status report :) )

Now that the matter is resolved, closing.
